Lovely action shot of Reg Parnell at speed in his 4.5 litre V12 Ferrari 375 'Thinwall Special' at the 1951 Silverstone Daily Express Trophy race - which he shocked the world by winning, ahead of the all conquoring Alfa Romeos 159s of Fangio and Farina! Thiw could have been the very first major F1 race in which Ferrari beat Alfa Romeo.

During this event the heavens opened and a torrential hail storn turned the track into a lake. The Alfas suffered because their superchargers swallowed a lot of water and after 6 laps the chequered flag was held out as cars spun in all directions ! Through the melle Parnell kept his head and kept the car on track and was declared the winner.
