A change from motor sport - here's some serious heavy haulage as captured in a British Transport Film documentory of the early 1950s - when heavy haulage meant a Scammell (or two, or three..) and in this case a mere 500 mile pre-motorway run to deliver a 130 foot tall section of tower!

1994 Ultra-rare hardback book about the particularly British style of 'Specials' - racing cars built by amateurs mixing diverse components in often skeletal lightweight chassis' to create ridiculously fast devices.
Often these had chain drive (From GN cycle cars) IFS (from Morgan 3 wheelers) motorcycle engines (JAP being the favourite) or sometimes Aircraft engines (Napier W12 for example) and frequently very little bodywork ..
Very popular in hillclimbs from the 20s onwards or at Brooklands and late VSCC events.
This book includes those that class as 'Vintage' either in their date of construction (like SPIDER(seen on the cover) or Parry Thomas' BABS or in the fact they have been made up more recently using vintage-era components such as Peter Morely's famous BENTLEY-NAPIER which continues to be a huge draw at VSCC events with it's current owner.

George raced a wide variety of cars over a career that lasted 2 decades (HWM, Bugatti, SS100, Aston Martin etc) and competed in events from thw 1000 yards hillclimb at Shelsley Walsh to the 1000 mile road race, the Mille Miglia.
