Originally published in 1888. Delightful look at life as it was on the Roads of Britain before the arrival of the Motor Car. When the Horse was King! The book is a tour of the Country stopping at the principal Inns that were the stages for the Coach & Four. This book was written in the latter days of this mode of transport. The steam Train had already arrived and diverted much trade, but the roads still provided an alternative for the traditional means of conveyance, or so it then seemed. . Delightful book of stories from the travellers of the time and the experiences encountered both on the road and at the Inn. Superb illustrations make this an all-time classic. The book which runs to 376 pages is in very good condition apart from an ink blot on page 327-328  otherwise superb! Gilt embossed illustration to blue cloth cover-boards.
