The unique Connew Grand Prix car in it's later guise as an F5000 with Chevy engine and Tony Trimmer at the wheel.

The venue is Brands Hatch and the date in October 1973. The car appears to be in the process of blowing out all it's oil...

The Connew was the work of a small band of hard working and talented amateurs who built the car on a tiny budget, in an equally tiny lock-up garage in London and actually got it onto the grid of a Grand Prix (Austria 1972) where it sadly retired.

The engine was originally a borrowed Cosworth DFV and the car appeared in several events with drivers Francois Migault and David Purley before the Chevy was installed for Poerre Soukry, who failed twice to qualify it for rounds of the F5000 european series. It finally raced as seen here by Trimmer, retiring due to an accident rather than all that smoke...
