Great photo of the start of the 1954 Avus GP in Berlin featuring three Mercedes W196 Streamliners on the front row - Fangio, Kling and Herrmann, with Jean Behras tiny Gordini and an assortment of Maserati 250Fs in the background. You can also clearsly see the massive brick surfaced banking of the North Turn, built in

the 1930s but now, sadly, long gone. This event, more or less run to show off the new Mercedes F1 cars to the German public, was won by Kling from Fangio - the suspecion being that the result was worked out among the team in advance...Kling was a good driver but he was never Fangio's equal...who was ??
