Nice amateur photo of the famous single seater R Type MG sat in the paddock at Donington in about 1935 with it's owner-driver Bobby Baird (the bespectacled figure stooping down near the camera).

The R Type was MG's only single seater race car and had great success in British events before MG was absorbed into the Nuffield corporation and ceased must of it's racing activity in 1935.

Bobby Baird was an Irish newspaper propriator who owned a lot of MGs before and after WW2 and modofied many of them beyond recognition. He later built a car based on a Maserati chassis called the Griffin and then bought a Ferrari F2 car which he raced untill his death in a track accident in about 1955.
