Nice reprint of an original amateur period photo of the famous single seater R Type MG sat in the paddock at Donington in about 1935 with it's owner-driver Bobby Baird (the bespectacled figure in the dark shirt at the front of the car).
The R Type was MG's only single seater race car and had great success in British events before MG was absorbed into the Nuffield corporation and ceased must of it's racing activity in 1935.
Bobby Baird was an Irish newspaper propriator who owned a lot of MGs before and after WW2 and modified many of them beyond recognition. He later built a car based on a Maserati chassis called the Griffin and then bought a Ferrari F2 car which he raced untill his death in a track accident in about 1955.
