History of Napier cars and it's place in motor sport and in the development of British motoring . One of the first British build quality cars, Napier pioneered the 6 cylinder engine, won the GORDON BENNETT RACE in 1902 and paved the way for the likes of Sunbeam and Vauxhall in motor sport. Under the guidence of Australian born S F Edge the company flourished until the outbreak of war and a switch to aero engines took them out of the car making business. However those engines formed the basis of Land and Water speed record breaking vehicles throughout the 1920s,30s and 40s culminating in John Cobb's RAILTON MOBIL SPECIAL becoming the first to clock 400mph . 208 large pages with splendid illustrations from events of the time and the Napier works. Very good clean book and jacket
