In reality in seems all to have started with the wind cheating Coupes developed for Endurance Racing and the Special Body Builders of which at that time Gurney-Nutting's Bentley would have been the most famous. These however were specialist coachbuilders working in small numbers. With mass production at the top level, the Italian designers came into their own, with Ferrari & Alfa examples as GT's almost becoming the normal. Alas, the term seems today to be mis-applied to anything that is not bog-standard. So for the true meaning of whether your car can  justify the label. Book and jacket in very good condition.
