1992 hardback charting the stormy romance of Siamese Royal Prince Bibabongse and English socialite Ceril Heycock who met when the 20 year old Prince was embarking on has career as a racing driver aided and abetted by his cousin Prince Chula, a fellow exile from their homeland at the time, and both very Anglophile in attitude and education.
Within 3 week Bira and 17 year old Ceril were engaged and were husband and wife through his heady pre war racing years at Brooklands, Crystal Palace and on the 'Continent' with his three ERA racing cars and an assortment of MGs Austins and others, then through the war years on into the late 40s when racing resumed and "Bira" continued as one of the most famous racing names in Europe.
Set against this backdrop is the story of their life, of fast cars fast living, huge yachts, big parties and famous friends (Noel Coward being one) the death of several racing colleagues, of their estate in Corrnwall and of Bira's ability as a noted sculptor, and of his natural playboy nature with all it's inevitable consequences on their marriage, which ended at the start of the 50s.
Excellent read opening a window on a real life Agatha-Christie world among the English social elite.
