Signed by the author on title page. Story of the landmark 1903 GORDON BENNETT RACE in Ireland won by the Belgian Driver Camille Jenatzy ("The Red Devil" so-called due to his red hair ad beard) aon his 60hp Mercedes . This race took place shortly after the disasterous Paris-Madrid event which was halted due to widely publicised carnage among the drivers and the crowds on the unsecured route. The Irish event ran like clockwork and showed how it could be done, thus in effect saving international motor racing from being outlawed in many countries . The author is an acknowledge expert on Irish motor sport history.  Lynch brings the event to life, the people, the times, the significance of it all.
