Italian text biography of the leading pre-war racing driver (and prior to that motorcycle racer) Achile Varzi who ranked 2nd only to his great rival Nuvolari at his peak and won numerous Grands Prix for Bugatti and Alfa Romero as well as the Targa Florio before signing for the German state funded AUTO UNION team .However his career was already suffering from morphine addiction and he spent the latter part of the 30s in the background, recovering. Reappearing after the war as an Alfa Romeo F1 team driver, his talent revived, he was sadly killed soon after in a track crash. 231 pages, masses of photos and results as well as the Italian narrative, very good clean condition book and jacket.
